1) Use the correct-sized boxes

When you pack books for relocating, pack the books or similar heavy items in small boxes and the lighter items like linen and pillows to be packed in bigger ones. Big boxes packed with heavy items are a common complaint of professional movers. They not only make the move more difficult but have a better chance of breaking.

2) Put heavier items on the bottom of boxes, and lighter goods on top

If you are loading the truck, pack the heaviest boxes first at the front of the truck for balance.

3) Do not leave empty spaces in the boxes

Fill in gaps with towels, clothing, or packing paper. Movers often will not move boxes that feel loosely packed or unsteady.

4) Try not to mix items from different rooms in the same box

It will help your packing process and make your unpacking easier with less confusion.

5) Label each box with the room it is going to and add a description of its contents

This will help the movers and yourself know where each box belongs in your new home. Numbering each box is also a good idea as well as keeping a list of all the boxes. This will help make sure you still have everything when you unpack and avoids arguments later on.
